Gothrakala International Padayani Foundation

Gothrakala International Padayani Foundation is the leading padayani & Velakali Training centre and performing wing.It is the first ever Padayani team performed in an international arena. In 2015 they made debut performance in the Diversity International Arts festival in Kula Lumpur, Malaysia. The theatre version of Padayani too had its premiere then. Gothrakala is the first Padayani team to get empanelled by Indian Council For Cultural Relations. Kerala Government allotted Three lakhs evaluating the performance and endeavor to preserve and promote Padayani.

The team had performances at Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, School of Drama of Calicut University etc. Now they conduct workshops and seminars in schools and colleges and perform for Folklore Academy and Kerala Tourism Department. The newest Padayani- velakali batch consists of 40 students.

Feel the festival of nature

Padayani in fact is the worship of nature. Padayani is the unique art form which use only eco friendly props for the performance. For each performance, new Kolams and other properties are freshly made. The Green arecasheath is the main thing for Padayani. Its taken as full and peeled off with specially crafted knife. The colors too are from nature. For yellow its turmeric and for black its charcoal. For green, the green outer part is left and for white the peeled portion will be left like of murals. For red color special red stones are used. The kolams and other properties are prepared at the venue itself. Its the chance to know the art form more closely.
